Plumbing and Gas Permits

The following are required when applying for a commercial plumbing permit:

Two (2) copies of the plans and specifications of the proposed work shall be submitted. Not all commercial plumbing projects will require a plan review. Contact our Commercial Plans Reviewer at (757) 890-3579 prior to submission for more information.

Plumbing plans and details shall include:

Building floor plan with all fixtures and piping shown.
Drain, waste and vent riser diagram noting all pipe sizes, DFU’s, materials and for buildings of two stories or greater, the direction of flow.
Water distribution riser diagram noting all pipe sizes and materials.
Water heater piping diagram noting all piping sizes, materials and safety devices.
A fixture schedule keyed to the floor plan and riser plans.
Method of disinfection for potable water piping.
Plumbing plans and specification shall include the seal and signature of the design Professional under whose supervision they were prepared OR if exempt under the provisions of Title 54.1-402 of the Virginia Code, the name, address and Master Tradesman card number of the Master Plumber under whose supervision the documents were prepared shall be affixed to each page of the plans.

Service water heating (SWH) plans and details shall include:

SWH equipment data including type, capacity and efficiency.
SWH pipe insulation, thickness, conductivity and vapor retarder (where appropriate).
Water conservation requirements.
Energy conservation measures for swimming pools (where applicable).
Multifamily residential buildings three stories or less in height; the non-dwelling-unit portions only.
