[ARCHIVED] September is Library Card Sign Up Month

Children and teens get a prize when they sign up for a York County Public Library card in September.

The York County Public Library wants to remind our community that a library card is an important part of your back-to-school supply list. Did you know that September is Library Card Sign-Up Month? Library cardholders gain access to a world of educational resources. Beyond our collection of books, audio and video resources, the library offers access to online databases and tutorials that can support your child’s learning.

Don’t have a library card yet? Learn how a library card gives you superpowers by signing up today! Parents or guardians can sign up children ages 4 and up for a library card by visiting one of our two convenient branch locations with a photo ID and proof of residence. Children ages 4 to 16 get a special gift if they get a library card during the month of September.

Can’t make it into the library right now? Apply for our digital library card, which gives you access to all of our digital resources. This temporary card expires after 3 months, but can be validated in person at any time to be converted into a regular library card.

To explore our educational resources, visit our Homework Help page. Learn how to sign up for a library account on our Library Cards page.

The York County Public Library is observing new operating hours. Both branches are open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. The library is closed on Sundays and Mondays. Masks are required in the building and we ask visitors to observe social distancing and make use of provided hand sanitizer stations. Limited curbside service is available for those unable to enter the buildings. For questions, call us at 757-890-5100 or email us at
