The General Assembly has called a special election to be held on April 21, 2026, on a proposed constitutional amendment. On Election Day, April 21, all regular York County polling places will be open from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m. If you are in line at 7 p.m., you are still able to vote. A sample ballot can be found here. The Department of Elections has an explanation available here.
Voter Registration
The Constitution of Virginia requires that voters be registered in the precinct in which they live in order to be qualified to vote. The deadline to register to vote, or to update one’s registration information in time for the election is Tuesday, April 14.
Qualified residents who will be at least 18 years of age on or before November 3, 2026, may register and vote. Voters who are members of the uniformed services or who are overseas may visit the Department of Elections website for information on how to ensure they are able to vote in this election.
There are three ways you can register or update your voter registration information:
- Online, through the Department of Elections Citizen Portal.
- You can print an application off, complete it, sign it and submit it by mail or bring it to either Registrar's Office location during office hours.
- You may come to one of the Registrar's Office locations and complete a paper application:
- Washington Square, 5322 Geo. Wash. Mem. Hwy, Yorktown -- Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM-5:00 PM
- Victory Village, 6614 Mooretown Rd., Ste. A, Williamsburg -- Tuesday, 8:30-5:00 (on and after March 6, the hours of operation will be Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM-5:00 PM)
Your Voter Registration Information
You are able to look up your voter registration information online. Once you provide the requested information, you will be told which districts you live in, where your polling place is, and your voting history. Your voting history only includes whether you voted in an election, not for whom you voted.
