Fire & Life Safety

The York County Department of Fire and Life Safety is responsible for the provision of Fire, Rescue, Emergency Medical Services, Emergency Management /Disaster Preparedness, and Animal Services. Fire, rescue and advanced life support emergency medical services operations are primarily provided from six fire stations located strategically throughout the County. In addition, the department maintains more advanced response capabilities for technical rescue, hazardous materials, mass medical and water-related incidents. The department has mutual aid, in-kind service agreements with surrounding localities and federal facilities that provide for the sharing of resources during emergency incidents.

The County's ISO (Insurance Services Office) Fire Protection classification is 2/2Y.

Sheriff's Office

The York County Sheriff's Department is dedicated to protecting the life and property of York County's citizens. The department is responsible for reducing crime and serving the needs of the citizens and businesses by providing quality and efficient law enforcement services to the community.

Infrastructure & Utilities

York County businesses take advantage of Hampton Roads' well-developed business infrastructure, as well as an exceptional telecommunications system. This system includes independent dual fiber-optic networks that link York County to the major telecommunications corridors of Richmond and the Northeastern United States and Atlanta and the Southeastern United States. The two largest regional telecom companies are Verizon and Cox Communications, each of which has invested in a first-tier, fiber-optic link. The two cooperate to assure the region's network is robust as well as redundant.

York County businesses benefit from Hampton Roads' advanced regional waste water treatment facilities through the Hampton Roads Sanitation District and service from the Peninsula's regional water provider, Newport News Waterworks.

Electricity

Dominion Virginia Power supplies electricity to all of York County, including multi-phased power to each industrial park.

Natural Gas

Virginia Natural Gas supplies Industrial Parks and other commercial areas of the County with natural gas.

Telecommunications

Verizon , Cox Communications and Lumos Networks provide telephone service, high-tech fiber optics, and digital communications. This extensive high-tech infrastructure has led to the region's number ten national ranking in Internet penetration. Several satellite internet providers are also available such as Viasat and Hughes Network.

Waste Management

York County's Division of Solid Waste Management handles all solid waste generated in the County. For large commercial projects, BFI, Area Containers, and Waste Management are available for pick-up services.

Water & Sewer

• York County's Division of Utilities is responsible for overseeing the water and sewer activities in the County. The existing infrastructure consists of over 282 miles of force and gravity sewer mains, over 77 miles of vacuum main, 74 pump and 9 vacuum stations serving roughly 24,000 customers.
• Newport News Waterworks provides water to a majority of the County. The gross capacity of the water system is 90 million gallons per day. 
• Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD) provides sewer treatment to all of York County. The gross capacity of the sewer system is 15 million gallons per day.
