[ARCHIVED] Nature-Themed Backpacks @ Your Library

Check out the great outdoors by checking out a Nature Backpack at your Library! Thanks to a partnership between the Library of Virginia, Virginia State Parks and the Science Museum of Virginia, the Tabb and Yorktown Libraries have Survival Nature Backpacks available to check out. The items in the backpack will help families learn about nature in their backyard, a York County park or at one of Virginia's 37 state parks.

Each backpack comes with a parking pass for free parking/entrance to all Virginia State Parks. Backpacks also feature: pocket guides to weather, edible wild plants, and medicinal plants of the Eastern Woodlands; port-a-bug field observation container; Big Foot Leave No Trace Ethics Card; star map; compass; binoculars; dip net; and laminated sheets with suggested activities designed by both Virginia State Parks and the Science Museum of Virginia.

York County residents with library cards in good standing can borrow the Nature Backpacks at the Tabb and Yorktown Youth Services desk. Contact the Tabb Library, 757-890-5110, or Yorktown Library, 757-890-3236, to check backpack availability and place a hold for one. Backpacks can be checked out for two weeks. Renewals are not available. Backpacks must be returned to the Youth Services desk where they were checked out.
