A new replica of an 18th Century cannon is now on display at the Yorktown Waterfront. York County Department of Public Works installed the replica cannon and its accompanying plaque. The original cannon, which was dumped in the York River during the Battle of Yorktown (1781), was later recovered in the 1930's and is available for viewing at the Newport News Mariners' Museum. This replica was created with the use of 3D imaging, is 80% of the size of the original cannon, and can will be in its current place at the waterfront until it is replaced by a full-scale model this year.
