[ARCHIVED] Ballard Street Sidewalk Expansion

this is a picture of the sidewalk at Ballard Street

On Monday, June 11th, construction will begin on the Ballard Street Sidewalk Expansion project.  This project is a collaborative endeavor between York County and the National Park Service, and will provide the public with an extended walkway to better enjoy the historic park area between the York-Poquoson Courthouse and Bacon Street.  The purpose of the project is to provide a safe walkway for pedestrians while maintaining the aesthetic integrity of historic Yorktown.

Construction will begin at Bacon Street, and will work back towards the Courthouse.  Work will take place between the hours of 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., and equipment such as trucks, backhoe, and other heavy equipment will be used during the process.  However, construction is not expected to be a major distraction or nuisance to residents or visitors.  No significant interruptions of traffic or access to side streets are expected, and parking will not be significantly affected either.  Six courthouse parking spaces have been reserved in support of this project.

Work is expected to be complete prior to July 4th, weather permitting.  Plans for further sidewalk expansion are expected in the future.  York County and the National Park Service will continue to work together to achieve continued results.
