The York County Beautification Committee has been awarded a 30 in Thirty grant of $500 in the Community Beautification category from the Keep Virginia Beautiful organization. The funds will be used to create a butterfly garden at the York County Waste Management/Recycling Center. It will be certified as a Monarch Waystation and as a National Wildlife Habitat. The tagging reports will be monitored to determine if any butterflies tagged in York County are recovered in Mexico. In addition, York County Beautification Committee will feature native butterfly habitats at the Yorktown Market Days, to educate the public and encourage them to create a butterfly garden at their home.
The mission at Keep Virginia Beautiful is to engage and unite Virginians to improve our natural and scenic environment through five impact areas: Litter Prevention, Waste Reduction, Recycling, Beautification, and Environmental Education.
