[ARCHIVED] DPW Does Important (and Sometimes Dangerous) Work

On January 2, 2018, The Wall Street Journal ran an article on titled 25 Most Dangerous Jobs in America written by Samuel Stebbins which looked at records from 2016.  Six of the entries on that list include work performed by employees of the Department of Public Works.  Safety is the #1 priority for all of our DPW employees.  Please keep their safety in mind if you see them in the public doing their important work.

#4 Roofers – 48.6 fatalities /100,000

#5 Refuse/recyclable collectors - 34.1 fatalities /100,000

#11 Grounds Maintenance workers – 17.4 fatalities /100,000

#22 Electricians 10.0 fatalities /100,000

#24 Painters 8.6 fatalities /100,000

#25 HVAC mechanics 8.4 fatalities /100,000
