[ARCHIVED] Summer Reading Book Recommendations for Kids, Tweens, and Teens

Summer Reading Book Recommendations for kids, tweens and teens

Reading can be one of the many fun activities children choose to fill their summer. Not only is it fun, but it helps prevent the summer slide. Summer slide is the loss of academic skills during the summer and is largely attributed to the lack of reading. By encouraging children to stay engaged in reading throughout the summer, they will be more prepared for school this fall.

One way to encourage your children to read is by participating in the York County Public Library's summer reading challenge. Our Youth Services staff have created these reading lists to align with the weekly summer reading themes. Lists are available for birth-preschool, grades K-5, and grades 6-12. Explore these titles with your child, or ask a librarian for some age-appropriate book ideas.
