Colonel Enrique Gaitan, Spanish Army Liaison Officer at Fort Eustis, visited the Yorktown Library on Wednesday, February 23, and presented Library Director Kevin Smith the book George Washington and Spain. The Legacy of the Spanish Army in the United States of America.
The book tells the story of Spain’s influence on American history and Washington’s relationship with Spain during the Revolutionary War, including the role Spain played in the Battle of Yorktown. It also highlights Spanish explorers in the U.S., such as Hernando de Soto and Ponce de Leon, and the expansion of the Spanish empire. George Washington and Spain was edited by The Legacy and the Spanish Ministry of Defense Publications team. Special thanks to Colonel Gaitan and The Legacy for this donation.
George Washington and Spain is available to check out at the Tabb Library. Reserve this title through the library catalog.
The Legacy (https://www.thespanishlegacy.com/en/home) is dedicated to highlighting the significance of Spain’s historical and cultural contributions to the United States. It encourages and promotes the ties between the two countries based on the relationship that has united us since before the United States became an independent country.
