[ARCHIVED] Master Your Garden!

The York County Public Library, Poquoson Public Library, and York-Poquoson Master Gardeners are partnering to host a series of educational gardening seminars on Zoom. The series will feature a variety of topics to help save you time and build your gardening skills. These programs are free and open to the public. Each one hour session starts at 1 p.m. on the Saturday listed. Participants must register via the Zoom links below. Registration is open for all sessions.

  • Composting 101 on January 30:  Register
    Join Master Gardener Carol Bartram to learn how to turn yard and kitchen waste into garden gold!
  • Starting from Seed on February 6:  Register
    Have you ever tried to grow your own plants from seed, but had limited success? Join Master Gardener Nate Brauner to learn some easy techniques and secrets to growing your own flowers, vegetables and favorite plants from seed at home. Increase the variety in your garden, and find solutions that work in your area. The program is open to all. If you register by Monday, Feb. 1, 2021, you can choose to receive a seed-starting kit, while supplies last. Kits will be distributed beginning Feb. 2 at either the Tabb or Yorktown Libraries, Poquoson Library, or the York County Virginia Extension Office.
  • Pruning on February 13:  Register
    Become pruning confident in our free seminar with Master Gardener Mary Boxer. Learn the safe and proper use of pruning tools to improve the health, longevity and appearance of plants, ornamental shrubs and trees.  
  • Healthy Virginia Lawns on February 27:  Register
    How green is your lawn? Join Master Gardener Pete Peterman to learn tips and tricks to keep your lawn healthy.
  • Gardening in Small Spaces on March 6:  Register
    Do you have limited room to plant a garden? Have your past attempts at growing vegetables and flowers been less than you had hoped for? Join Master Gardener Nate Brauner to learn how intensive gardening techniques can transform your small garden into a success for all of your favorite plants.
  • Vegetable Gardening on March 27:  Register
    Join Master Gardener Patty Ellison to learn how to make your dream vegetable garden a reality. Topics covered include water, zones, nutrition, pest prevention, and more.
  • Planting for Pollinators on April 10:  Register
    What can you do to help the Monarch Butterflies, Honey Bees and other pollinators in our area? Join Master Gardener Nate Brauner to learn how simple choices can help transform your yard or garden bed into a habitat that is teeming with beneficial insects and brings beauty into your yard.
  • The Amazing Honey Bee on May 8:  Register
    Join Master Gardener Nate Brauner to learn how the honey bee can be your garden's best friend. This program is part of a partnership between Poquoson Public Library and York County Public Library to host educational gardening Zoom sessions with the York-Poquoson Master Gardeners.
