[ARCHIVED] Phased Reopening Plans - Revised 07/02/2020

Library expands curbside service to Yorktown Branch; Reopening Delayed

In accordance with Governor Northam’s guidelines, York County is in the process of implementing phased reopening plans for its facilities.

07/02/2020 Update:

Beginning Monday, July 6, the York County Public Library is continuing curbside service at the Tabb Library for the pickup of books, DVDs, and Summer Reading Program materials, and is extending the service to the Yorktown branch. The curbside service is available from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Once patrons place their items on hold through the library’s catalog, they are notified by staff when the items are available. Upon arrival at the branch, patrons park in a numbered space and follow the posted instructions to notify staff of arrival. Materials are delivered to the individual by library employees following social distancing and protective guidelines.

Beginning Monday, July 6, book drops will be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for the return of materials. We will continue to quarantine returned items for three days. Items will be removed from your account on the fourth day after drop off. No fines will be assessed.

The previously announced reopening of the libraries on July 7 has been postponed as a precautionary measure. We will assess the situation weekly and look forward to reopening in the near future.

05/28/2020 Update:

Beginning Monday, June 1, the Tabb Library will offer curbside pick-up from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Patrons can request a maximum of 5 books, DVDs, and other items through our online catalog. You’ll be notified by email or phone when your items are ready for pick-up at the Tabb Library. Patrons should turn right as they enter the Tabb parking lot and follow the orange barrels/cones. Six spaces are marked for curbside service. If a space is not available, please wait at the "stop sign." Signs are posted at each curbside parking spot with instructions and a phone number for notifying staff of your arrival.

Curbside pick-up is not currently available at the Yorktown Library. Holds placed prior to March 14 for pick-up at Yorktown are currently available to pick-up at Tabb.

05/15/2020 Update:

On Monday, May 18, the book drop will be open at the Tabb and Yorktown Libraries from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., Monday through Friday. The physical buildings will not be open to the public. Returned books will be quarantined for three days. Items will be removed from your account on the fourth day after drop off. No fines will be assessed. Please maintain social distancing when returning items to the book drop.

Even though the library buildings are still closed, our digital collection and research resources are always available online. If you need help accessing these resources, ask us online or call the Tabb Library, 757-890-5100, or Yorktown Library, 757-890-3377. We’re also available to offer reading recommendations and answer your reference questions.

As we move forward cautiously, public health remains our top priority. We will keep you updated with specifics as soon as they are available.
