[ARCHIVED] Drug Take Back & Shredding Event, Saturday April 27

Drug Take Back, Saturday, April 28 from 10 am until 2 pm.

On Saturday, April 27, the York-Poquoson D.A.R.E. Office, in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), is holding a Drug Take Back event to provide citizens the opportunity to drop off expired or unneeded prescription pills, patches, and liquid medications to help prevent drug abuse or theft, and to ensure drugs are disposed of properly. Pills, patches, and liquid medications may be dropped off from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the York-Poquoson D.A.R.E. Office, 5338-D George Washington Memorial Highway (in the Washington Square Shopping Center). The Drug Take Back cannot accept needles or other sharp items. This service is provided at no cost and is anonymous – no questions asked.

More Drug Take Back sites are available. For more information, visit www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov.

As an additional service to the community, the York County Beautification Committee is providing citizens the opportunity to shred personal papers – up to five boxes of paperwork per person. Staples and/or paperclips do not need to be removed prior to shredding. This service is available from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Also at this event, the Beautification Committee is accepting plastic bags for recycling in the Trex Bench challenge. Simply drop off your plastic bags and they will be shipped to the Trex Company. Once we submit 500 pounds of plastic materials, we will receive a free bench for one of our schools! We have already received two free benches thanks to the support and participation of our citizens.

In addition, this is a donation spot for the Peninsula Food Bank. We are accepting non-perishable canned/boxed food items to serve the needs of the hungry in our area.

Information about the Drug Take Back event in York County is available by calling the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office at (757) 890-3630.

Details about the shredding event/plastic bag collection/food drive is available by calling the Waste Management Center at (757) 890-3780.
