Board of Supervisors Elects Chairman, Vice Chairman
At the Board’s annual organizational meeting this week, Sheila S. Noll (District 2, shown right) was elected Chairman, and Doug Holroyd (District 1, shown far right) was elected Vice Chairman. Also, the Board voted to continue its meeting schedule of the first and third Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. in York Hall. Meeting agendas are posted prior to each meeting and all meetings are aired live and replayed on WYCG-TV (Cox 46/HD86, Verizon 38) and live-streamed on the website.

Start the New Year with Energizing and Fun Programs
Did you make a New Year’s resolution to be more active? Citizens 55 and up may choose from a variety of activities at the Senior Center. Ring in 2025 by joining the Dining Club or Line Dancing or signing up for Driver Safety or Chair Yoga, there’s something for everyone. Visit the Senior Center website for all the details. Cabin Fever Concert Series

Cabin Fever Concert Series Returns
Your wish is our command! Back by popular demand from Visit Yorktown, the return of the Cabin Fever Concert Series. Kicking off Thursday, January 16, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m in the Freight Shed with Skylark! This jazz band plays sophisticated, funky grooves that are different from your typical top 40 or swing groups. You'll hear songs you know, but with new, modern arrangements, along with your favorite classics. Concerts are free and open to the public. Due to limited space, it is first-come-first-served, so arrive early! 

Calling all Artists to Apply for the Juried Art Show
If you're drawn to art and want to showcase your artistic talent, enter the 12th Annual Art at the River Juried Art Show! The show is currently accepting entries in several mediums including painting, photography, pottery, glass, jewelry, graphics, and mixed media. Enter by February 1 for your chance to compete for Best in Show and the People's Choice Award. Art at the River will be held at the Historic Yorktown Waterfront from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 4. York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office

Free Classes this Month from the Sheriff’s Office
Sheriff Montgomery is pleased to offer another Gun Safety class to the citizens of York County and Poquoson on Wednesday, January 22 (6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.). Participants must be 18 or older with photo ID. This is a general handgun safety course. While it is not a concealed carry course, it does meet the safety course criteria required to apply for a concealed carry permit. A certificate of completion will be given at the end of the 2-hour course. Please note: This is a lecture only and not a hands-on course. Sign up here. 

On Tuesday, January 28, join YPSO for a free CRASE (Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events) Class (6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.). In this session, you'll learn valuable, lifesaving strategies for staying safe in an active shooter situation. Our trained instructors will guide you through practical steps to help protect yourself and others. This class is open to all community members and is part of our commitment to keeping York County safe and prepared. Seats are limited, register today.

The Second Annual Spirit of Giving Tree Provides a Happy Holiday to Local Families 
York County & the City of Poquoson sponsored 47 families with young children, YPDSS aging clients, and children of the YPDSS Foster Care program. Thank you to the Yorktown Library for helping distribute the tree tags. The Spirit of Giving Tree 2024 Christmas sponsorship included new toys, brand-new clothing items, and gift cards. Community financial donations earmarked for Christmas assistance also were also used to make a difference holiday season. The York/Poquoson Department of Social Services would like to “Thank” the following local partners and individuals who truly showed the “Spirit of Giving”!
