What is the LED Street Lighting Project?
York County, in partnership with Dominion Energy Virginia, began conversion of existing public streetlights to efficient LED fixtures in 2021. Over the past several years, the majority of public streetlights in the County have now been converted to LED.
What are LED lights?
LEDs, or light-emitting diodes, use solid-state technology to convert electricity into light. Put simply, LEDs are very small light bulbs that fit into an electrical circuit. Unlike traditional bulbs, they don’t have a filament that burns out and they don’t get very warm.

What are the benefits of converting public streetlights to LED?
LED fixtures have numerous benefits. LEDs have a much longer life than traditional lights, use less energy, offer enhanced visibility and light quality, while being less prone to maintenance problems.
