Susan Kassel

As Director of Planning and Development Services, Susan Kassel oversees the Planning, Building Regulation and Development Services divisions.  Mrs. Kassel manages the daily operations of the Development Services division and coordinates the plan review and zoning enforcement processes. Mrs. Kassel received a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture from the University of Virginia in 1986 and has been a member of the American Planning Association since 1988. Mrs. Kassel previously held several positions with the City of Newport News until retiring from the Department of Engineering in 2016. She was hired as the Chief of Development Services on August 1, 2016 and was promoted to the position of Director of Planning and Development Services on May 1, 2018.
