1. What is the difference between my water bill, my HRSD wastewater bill and my York County sewer bill?

Your water purveyor will bill you for the clean water coming into your home. HRSD will bill you to treat the water you've used so it can go back into the environment. The amount of these bills may vary depending on how much water you've used in a billing period. York County will bill you for the sewer maintenance, which is a flat rate charge to help maintain the pipes and pumping stations in the County.

2. How can I access my account online?

Locate your 5 digit customer number in the upper left portion of your bill, underneath your mailing address. Using that along with the last name listed on the top line of the payment coupon, you can view your account or make payments online. For more information and options view the Payment Options page.

3. What utility services are provided by the County?

Trash collection is an optional service offered in most parts of the County and is handled through Waste Management. They can be reached by phone at 757-890-3780. There may also be a mandatory sewer maintenance charge for properties connected to the sewer system or where connection fees have been paid and the sewer system is available for use.

4. How often will I receive a bill?

York County sends out utility bills every 2 months, after the service is provided. They are mailed on the 15th of the odd months (January, March, May, July, and November) and are due on the 15th of the even months (February, April, June, August, October, and December.)

5. How do I sign up for services at a house I'm renting?

Only the owner or property manager is authorized to set up services. Please have your landlord contact our office by phone 757-890-3702 to sign you up for service.

6. Will I receive a credit on my utility bill if I had a water leak?

Residential customers are billed a flat rate sewer maintenance fee regardless of the amount of water used. Commercial customers that are billed based on a usage amount may be given a credit on the utility bill if HRSD is adjusting the wastewater treatment account as well.

7. Who do I need to call if I have a sewer backup?

If you are experiencing a sewer backup during normal business hours, please call 757-890-3750. For assistance outside of normal business hours, please call 757-890-3773. Be prepared to provide your name, address, phone number and what items are currently experiencing a backup in your home.
