This year, Yorktown celebrates its 15th Annual Rhythms on the Riverwalk concert series. These free outdoor performances are held every Friday in September, ending on the first Friday in October. All of the fun takes place at Riverwalk Landing from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
This year's diverse line-up is one of the best yet-featuring several genres of music including country, big band, and jazz!
September 6: Good Shot Judy - This talented group plays some of the best songs written in the last hundred years-in a way that's all their own. These guys always put on a stellar performance, filled with a little jazz, a little swing, and even some big band favorites! GSJ has opened for national acts like Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Squirrel Nut Zippers, and The Cherry Poppin' Daddies. They're so popular with the locals that this September, York County's very own Virginia Beer Company is releasing a brew for the band called Bourbon Barrel Parade.
September 13: Little Country - Drawing from lessons learned through formal training and years spent in the studio, this group of diverse musicians takes the country/rock format and turns it up to eleven with a high-energy stage show, plenty of hits you can't help but sing along to, and truly solid musicianship. Despite being largely "musician's musicians", Little Country never forgets their most important job is to bring the fun.
September 20: The Mullins Sisters - This performance will have deep musical roots in the southwest heart of the Appalachian Mountains. The Mullins Sisters perform everything from traditional country to modern chart toppers-with a pure harmony only sisters can achieve. In addition to lyrics the crowd can sing along to, these talented musicians will also perform some of their original hits.
September 27: Glen Boswick and the Sound of Swing Orchestra - Since 1977, The Sound of Swing Orchestra has been Hampton Roads leading premiere big band swing dance orchestra. They specialize in the Big Band sounds of the 40's through today and have performed memorable classics including "What a Wonderful World", "You Belong to Me", and "You are my Special Angel".
October 4: Bobby BlackHat Band - Bobby "BlackHat" Walters is a recording artist, harmonica player, vocalist, songwriter, and actor who hails from Cleveland. His band brings together the finest blues musicians in Hampton Roads to perform classic, modern, and even some original blues tunes that will keep your toes tappin' all night long.
Guests are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs. Coolers are permitted. Carrot Tree Kitchens will be onsite selling gourmet hot dogs, brisket, BBQ, and a rotating menu of the bakery's signatures desserts.
Parking is available in the two-level garage on Water Street, the York-Poquoson Courthouse, the County Administration Building, York Hall, and other designated public lots throughout town. The free Yorktown Trolley will run on select nights when large crowds are anticipated.
