New Quarter Park

Come to New Quarter Park

Hello All,

This weekend at the park
  • Saturday, August 24 - Bird Walk - This is hosted by the Williamsburg Bird Club and will meet at the main parking lot next to the basketball courts at 8 a.m.  Participants will be led on a 2-hour stroll through the park in search of viewing and identifying birds!

  • Saturday, August 24 - Walk and Talk - Insects of New Quarter - Biological scientist Tim Christensen will lead visitors on an informative insect walk and talk from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.  Participants will be looking for the park's most abundant insect species, whether they are feasting on tasty flowers or lurking under logs. By identifying their habits and habitats we can discover the many benefits they provide. Tim has also set out traps for insects earlier this week, in the hopes of having some interesting specimens to observe.  Participants are also encouraged to bring photos they have taken of insects for identification and discussion.
Have you tried...?
  • Birding at New Quarter Park:  We have 545 acres of land for you to explore in search of beautiful birds. New Quarter Park is a bird sanctuary that is home or migratory resting stop to over 30 species of birds at any given time...ranging in size from huge Blue Herons to small American gold finches and hummingbirds. We have a free, monthly bird walk on the fourth Saturday of every month, and free binoculars you can check out at any time. For more information on birding at the park, stop by or call the park office at 757-890-5840.
Next Wednesday, August 28:  Monthly Moonlight and Music program!   This free, fun, community music jam and sing-along session will be held at the shelter next to the basketball courts from 6:30 to 8 p.m.  Local musician Joe Duggan will lead us in a round table acoustic music session. Bring your guitars, banjos, and fiddles, or come to sit back, and enjoy the music! Be sure to bring your lawn chairs.

For more information about any of our programs, call New Quarter Park at 757-890-5840. To register for upcoming programs go to www.yorkcounty.gov/parksandrec.
