Fire Prevention Week

Charge into Fire Safety!
Fire Prevention Week is coming soon. It is observed each year during the week of October 9th in commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire, which began on October 8, 1871, and caused devasting damage. This year, Fire Prevention Week is October 5-11.

This year’s theme is all about lithium-ion batteries in the home and it helps us to understand and follow the “Buy, Charge, and Recycle Safely” approach. We should buy only safety listed products, charge our devices safely, and recycle all lithium-ion batteries responsibly. You can learn more about lithium-ion battery safety on our Fire Prevention Week webpage. Watch our Facebook page for safety tips and come join us at our Fire Station Open House on Saturday, October 11th at Fire Station #1, 118 Dare Road, from 1:00-3:00. Some of our partners from the York-Poquoson Sherriff’s Office will also be with us. This will be a wonderful opportunity to visit with many first responders and see some cool things. We would love to meet you and show you around the fire station.

York County to Host Community Resilience Workshop
