Yorktown Beach

How large is the beach?

Located in Historic Yorktown, our beachfront spans two acres. There’s plenty of room to set up a tent and chairs to enjoy sunshine with family and friends!

Is there anything special I should bring?

You may come across some sharp shells in and around the water, so we recommend wearing aqua shoes on the beach.

Can I swim in the water?

Cooling off on a hot summer day is encouraged, but please do not go past the swim buoys. They are there to ensure your safety! Also, please keep an eye out for jellyfish. The Dockmaster’s Office is equipped to assist with stings.

Is there a place in town to purchase beach essentials?

If you forgot hats and sunscreen, head over to Patriot Tours & Provisions for everything you need. They also have goggles, toys for the kids, sandals, sunglasses, swimsuits, and more!

Mobi-Mat

What is and isn’t allowed on the beach?

  • Tents are permitted (but not overnight)
  • No alcohol
  • No dogs
  • No loud music
  • No grills
  • No glass
  • No fishing from or climbing on the rocks
  • Metal detecting is permitted on the sand provided there is no disturbance of vegetated dunes

Is the beach ADA accessible?

Yes! A Mobi-Mat was installed to accommodate walkers, wheelchairs, or strollers and to allow everyone to have accessibility to the beach. Be sure to ask about our Mobi-Chair available for disabled guests who desire to physically get into the water. It's free to rent from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and in two-hour increments. You'll need a state-issued photo ID and each disabled/special needs individual must be accompanied by at least one escort to help with the chair. Please call 757.890.3370 for more information.

Where can I park?

Ample parking is available throughout town. Please obey all parking regulations by using the designated County public parking lots (i.e., Administration Building, Courthouse/Finance and York Hall), as well as the National Park Service Visitor Center parking area. Parking on the grass, side streets, post office, and other areas not marked for parking is prohibited. The parking at Riverwalk Landing is a 270-space two level parking terrace. The lower level of the terrace has a three-hour parking limit, with the upper deck being unlimited. Handicapped parking is available on the lower level of the terrace and in all other public lots. View the event and public parking map.

Another option is the FREE Yorktown Trolley. This air-conditioned service will take you from the Yorktown Battlefield Visitor Center all the way to the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown, making several convenient stops along the way including Yorktown Beach! Each trolley is ADA accessible, and service dogs are allowed onboard.
