Mother’s Day Dreams in Historic Yorktown

Mother’s Day is just around the corner (Sunday, May 11)! As you prepare to show your appreciation, consider gifting mom an unforgettable day in Historic Yorktown. Wondering where to go and what to do? For top-rate ideas, we asked two local moms how they would like to be treated.

Yorktown Waterfront

Deirdre Roesch, mother of a 17-year-old daughter and a dog

If you’re anything like me, if I need something, I buy it. Needless to say, it’s very difficult for my daughter to find the perfect gift for me for Mother’s Day. That’s why this year I’ve sent her suggestions that support local, independent businesses in Historic Yorktown—a place dear to my heart.

Gangsta Dog
I gave her the option of purchasing something for my sweet, spoiled, hairy Norfolk terrier, Nala, from Gangsta Dog instead. After all, Nala deserves it for being such a good girl—she’s gone 43 days without an accident in the house and snuggles with me after a long, hard day at work. Gangsta Dog bakes fresh, all-natural, gourmet dog biscuits by hand. There are also donuts, iced cookies, cakes, pupcakes, macarons, and pizza cookies (Nala’s favorite!) available for purchase.

Schooner Alliance II
To me, nothing says freedom more than the feel of the wind blowing in your face. And nothing would make me happier than a trip on the Schooner Alliance II. While on board, I can purchase and sip on a glass of wine, receive entertaining history lessons, and enjoy the breathtaking view of the York River. It’s an hour and a half of absolute bliss!

Coastal Thirst Beach Deli
A momma’s gotta eat! I’m obsessed with good food, so a gift card to Coastal Thirst Beach Deli would be just what this momma ordered. Their fresh menu features some of my favorites – crispy tacos, burrito bowls, crab cakes, fresh squeezed, handmade healthy juices, and more. I have yet to find anything at this restaurant I won’t eat—truly a hard feat for my picky and sophisticated palate.

Family at Yorktown Waterfront

Ashley Sopko, mother of an 8-year-old, 6-year-old, and 4-year-old

As the mother of young children, I tend to enjoy a Mother’s Day that carves out a little bit of “me time.” A couple of hours of quiet can feel so re-energizing! But it’s not long before I miss those sweet little faces and voices. So an ideal day would include some solo relaxation, quality family time, and a timeless gift.

A long walk + Yorktown Beach
Having the free time to take a long walk is such a luxury! I’d boost my endorphins by strolling Riverwalk Landing and pounding the pavement up to Main Street. After looping around a few times, I’d stop at Mobjack Coffee to grab a tea to go. Then, I’d head back down to the beach where I’d plop down on a chair with a good book. Now that’s relaxing!

Riverwalk Restaurant
No doubt I will have worked up an appetite! I’d love to meet my family at Riverwalk Restaurant for a delicious brunch. There’s something for everyone to enjoy here. My kids would love eggs and bacon, my husband would enjoy a burger, and I’d devour a tasty salad–with a side of fries! Keep an eye on their Facebook page for a Mother’s Day Menu.

Viccellio Goldsmith
While the absolutely best gifts are hugs, kisses, and homemade cards, most moms enjoy something wearable, too! As I get older, I prefer quality over quantity. Something that I can cherish forever, like a piece of jewelry from Viccellio Goldsmith. A gift certificate would be perfect for the opportunity to pick out something I truly love. Each time I wear it, I’ll think of this beautiful day in Historic Yorktown with the ones I love most.
