Holiday Weekend: Market Days at Riverwalk, Memorial Day Ceremony in York Hall, Offices Closed on Monday

County Office Phones Not Available June 1; 911 NOT Affected

York County government office phones will not be available on Thursday, June 1, due to planned service upgrades. This temporary outage affects all incoming and outgoing calls. Individuals needing to contact the County should email the appropriate department or stop by during office hours. Email addresses are available on the County’s website (select the department from the “Government” tab and click on the email link). Please note, 911 is not affected by this temporary outage.

Complete Your Memorial Day Menu at Yorktown Market Days

Pick up some goodies for your Memorial Day cookout at Yorktown Market Days tomorrow (5/27) from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Vendors will be selling fresh, seasonal produce such as corn, strawberries and peppers; tasty desserts including cookies, pies, and cheesecakes; and holiday-inspired décor. In case of inclement weather, the market is moved to the lower level of the Riverwalk Landing parking terrace.

Sounds of Summer Concert Series Begins Thursday (6/1)

These popular free concerts are back, and the lineup is going to get visitors on their feet and ready to dance! The shows are 6:30 to 9 p.m. Thursdays through August 10 (no concert July 6). The Uptown Band kicks off the season followed by an exciting lineup of the area’s best bands. Bring a blanket or lawn chairs for seating, and claim your spot at the performance area. Small coolers are permitted. Consider arriving early and dining at one of the County’s restaurants. For more information, click over to the Visit Yorktown website.

Congratulations to these Award Winners!

The Department of Fire & Life Safety has received a National Association of Counties Achievement Award for its “Take 3 Steps to Save a Life” initiative that was designed to educate the public on how to be prepared to use three easy steps to help someone in cardiac arrest. At the Peninsulas EMS Council awards ceremony on Saturday, May 20, Captain Michael Stinson received the Regional Award for Innovation Excellence in EMS, and the Department was recognized with the Regional Award for Outstanding EMS Call for its management of the “party bus” and tractor trailer crash on I-64 last December. And, the Virginia Peninsula Crime Stoppers recently awarded Deputy Joshua Walker with the Officer of the Year award for the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office. The organization also named D’Shawn Wright as Civilian of the Year for York County.

Memorial Day Ceremony Begins at 12 p.m. in York Hall

The public is invited to York Hall (301 Main Street) for the County’s Memorial Day Ceremony held to honor the military men and women who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. The Fifes and Drums of York Town will play just prior to the service. Additional participants include the York High School NJROTC presenting the flags, SMSgt USAF Terry Taylor singing the National Anthem, and Keynote Speaker Tim Smith, York County Historical Committee member.
