Celebrate the Earth at Saturday’s (4/22) Recycling Opportunities

Be sure to stop by the Drug Take Back/Paper Shredding event held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 105 Service Drive. Safely dispose of prescription pills and patches, and shred up to five boxes of personal papers. Bring plastics and wraps for recycling, and canned/boxed food for donation. Just down the road at 102 County Drive is free Tire Recycling also from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Five tires are accepted from each household (off-rim and free of mud/concrete).

Stop by Riverwalk Landing for Market Days

Tomorrow (4/22), Water Street will be bustling with food, art, and fun! Stop by the market from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and purchase seasonal produce, fresh baked bread and pastries, flowers, peanuts, coffee and tea, jewelry, and more. In honor of Earth Day, kids can stop by the craft table and color in eco-friendly messages, perfect for a place of honor at home.

Get ready for next weekend’s two-day Pirates Invade Yorktown event! Cannon demonstrations, sea shanties, a treasure hunt, and more! Details are available in this week’s press release and will be included in next week’s Citizen News Weekly.

Pedal the Parkway 2023 Coming Soon!

Here’s an event people look forward to each year . . . Pedal the Parkway begins at 6 a.m. on Saturday, May 6, and continues until 6 p.m. Sunday, May 7. The National Park Service will close a portion of the Colonial Parkway to vehicle traffic, so that bicycle riders, joggers, and walkers can safely enjoy the Parkway from Jamestown Settlement to the intersection with Route 199 at the Kingspoint Drive exit.

Did You Know that April is Safe Digging Month?

As warm weather returns, spring digging projects begin. Residents are asked to remember to call 811 at least a few days before starting a new project. Requesting utility line markings can help avoid physical injury, property damage, expensive repairs, and service interruptions.
