Yorktown Market Days Returns for its 17th Season!

The first market of the regular season is the Go Green Market, and patrons are invited to shop tomorrow (4/8) from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Bring your reusable shopping bag or pick up a free one from the Visit Yorktown booth (while supplies last). In addition to vendors, special exhibitors will be on hand to teach guests how to be eco-friendly and sustainable. Kids can stop by the Colonial National Historical Park booth to pick up materials for a scavenger hunt or color their own Go Green poster. Toe-tappers Scrapper T Duo will provide live entertainment from the Riverwalk Landing Stage at 9 a.m., with the Fifes and Drums of York Town performing at 10 a.m.  Click over to the Visit Yorktown website for more information.

Walk Right In and Sign Up for Head Start!

York County’s Children and Family Services division is opening its doors Tuesday (4/11) from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for parents to walk in at 1490 Government Road and learn more about signing up their 3-4 year old for Head Start (click here for eligibility details). Benefits of the Head Start program include access to health services for children, training and support services to parents, a developmentally appropriate classroom experience for eligible preschoolers, and more.

4-H Summer Camp Registration Begins April 15

As previously reported in Citizen News Weekly’s March 24 issue, online registration begins next weekend for the popular week-long, overnight residential camp held July 31-August 4 at the Jamestown 4-H Educational Center in Williamsburg. Archery, canoeing, fishing, music, ropes course, swimming, flag ceremonies, evening programs, and campfires all help make this camp an experience kids will never forget. Online registration begins at 9 a.m. Saturday (4/15). Children of Adult Camp Volunteers are guaranteed a spot and receive a discount on the registration fee.  For more information, call 757-890-4940. 

Yorktown Library Offers Fun and Educational Programs Next Week

Trivia Time! YCPL Trivia Night: Spring Edition provides a fun evening of friendly competition and facts on Wednesday (4/12), from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Yorktown Library.  Next Saturday (4/15) at 1 p.m., patrons at the Yorktown Library can learn more about transforming yards and gardens into a thriving habitat for butterflies and honeybees during Planting for Pollinators, a Virginia Cooperative Extension Master Gardener–led program. Registration is recommended for all programs.  Note: The Libraries are closed on Sunday (4/9) for Easter. 

Additional Notes for the Week…The Waste Management Center is closing at 1 p.m. Wednesday (4/12) for a routine inspection. This includes the Citizen Trash Drop-off, Recycling Center, Transfer Station, and VPPSA Compost Facility.  Operations resume Thursday (4/13).    The final race in the Weekend On Your Wheels program at New Quarter Park (1000 Lakeshead Drive) is next Sunday (4/16).
