“Building Together: Prevention in Partnership” is the Theme of April’s Child Abuse Prevention Month

Pinwheels are popping up all over! As a symbol of Child Abuse Prevention Month, the blue and silver pinwheels are placed to remind passers-by that childhood should be a time of joy and not one of abuse and neglect. Together with public awareness and support, the team at York-Poquoson Department of Social Services (YPDSS) works to ensure that parents have the knowledge, skills, and resources they need to care for their children, while promoting the social and emotional well-being of kids and preventing maltreatment. In recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month, the public is invited to two pinwheel ceremonies:  Thursday (4/6) from 1 to 3 p.m. at Bean’s Ice Cream in Poquoson (475 Wythe Creek Road) and Friday (4/7) from 1 to 3 p.m. at Dairy Queen in Yorktown (5704 Route 17). Free small ice cream for the first 100 kids at both events!

York-Poquoson Department of Social Services is hiring!  You can become a part of this amazing team by applying for a job with YPDSS.  See all job openings on the YPDSS website at www.yorkcounty.gov/socialservices.
