Sheriff’s Office Offers “Autism Acceptance” Magnets for Safe Interactions with Local Law Enforcement
The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office has partnered with the Autism Society of Tidewater to provide specialized training to deputies on how to safely interact with citizens diagnosed with autism. In addition, the Sheriff’s Office recently created magnets that can be placed on vehicles alerting deputies that someone riding inside may have special needs. Magnets are available to residents of York County and Poquoson upon request to sheriff@yorkcounty.gov.
Enjoy Stories by the Fire at New Quarter Park
Head over to New Quarter Park (1000 Lakeshead Drive, near Queens Lake neighborhood) next Saturday (3/25) for s’mores and pirate tales! Gather around the Fire Circle at 7 p.m. to make (and eat!) the delicious treats, and then sit back and enjoy stories of swashbucklers and scallywags. Seating is limited, so register early. Cost is $3 for residents and $5 for non-residents.
YMCA Victory at Yorktown Races April 1
The 8th annual Victory at Yorktown Races are Saturday, April 1, with a 10K, 5K, and 1-mile Fun Run. Races begin at the Yorktown Waterfront and pass landmarks such as the Victory Monument, Cornwallis’ Cave, and Surrender Field. Registration is available online. All proceeds help strengthen the community and keep families healthy. For runner and spectator safety, several roads in Yorktown will be temporarily closed.
