Flowers are blossoming, the weather is turning warmer, and the days are getting longer. That can only mean one thing—spring is right around the corner! It’s the perfect time to save the dates for the fun-filled events that are happening in Historic Yorktown. This is just a small sampling of some of the events taking place in Yorktown this spring. Featured Spring Events

April 1 - The Victory Family YMCA is holding its annual Victory at Yorktown 5K, 10K and 1-Mile Fun Run from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. These races begin at Riverwalk Landing and take participants past historic and scenic landmarks such as the Yorktown Victory Monument, Cornwallis’ Cave, and Surrender Field. Post-race activities include music, a bounce house, refreshments, and other family-friendly activities. April 8 - Yorktown Market Days’ 2023 season kicks off the annual Go Green Market from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Special exhibitors—Colonial Soil, Water Conservation District, Peninsula Master Gardeners, and Colonial Beekeepers, to name a few—will educate guests on the importance of environmental sustainability. Be sure to bring your reusable bag while shopping for fresh, seasonal produce; baked goods; meats; flowers; honey; gourmet dog treats; and much, much more. Free reusable bags will be given away while supplies last. The Fifes and Drums of York Town are performing. This event is a collaboration with York County’s Department of Public Works and the York County Beautification Committee.

April 15 - Modeled after the market in Yorktown’s sister city Port-Vendres, shop for French favorites during the annual Sister Cities French Market from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Riverwalk Landing. Purchase French wine and traditional French foods, such as breads, pastries, macarons, crepes, and authentic beignets. The Fifes and Drums of York Town are performing.

April 22 - Don’t miss the 8^th Annual Tartans and Tie-Dye Celebration from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Put on your fanciest tartans and tie-dye and join Team Shenanigans and Watermen’s Museum in a celebratory mosaic of music to raise awareness and funds for the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life. The event will feature regional Celtic, folk, and rock bands.

April 29-30 - All hands will be on deck for the Pirates Invade Yorktown Weekend. During this event, meet meandering pirates and their swashbuckling sidekicks; listen to Clan MacCool Gang and sing along to sea shanties; watch a pirate puppet show and cannon firings; create crafts; and much more. Vendors will be selling pirate-themed “booty” at the Pirate Invasion Market from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 29. Activities will be held 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. in the Freight Shed, York Hall, Watermen’s Museum, and Riverwalk Landing.

May 6 - Sample dozens of craft beers, chow down on some amazing barbecue, and listen as some of the best blues musicians in Hampton Roads take the Riverwalk Landing stage at the Blues, Brews and BBQ Festival, noon to 6 p.m. To purchase tickets, visit www.villageevents.org.

May 7 - Admire the work of local artists with the beautiful York River as the backdrop from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Painters, photographers, potters, jewelers, and other artists will line the Riverwalk to display their work with the hope of taking home the People’s Choice Award during the 10^th Annual Art at the River Juried Art Show.

May 13 - If you love antiques, Yorktown Market Days’ Vintage Market/Car Show on Main Street is the perfect event for you. Search for upcycled treasures and hard-to-find collectibles at the Vintage Market at Riverwalk Landing from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Up the hill on Historic Main Street, admire and talk to the owners of more than a dozen fully restored classic cars.

Free parking is available at the Riverwalk Landing parking terrace, York Hall, and several other designated public parking lots. The complimentary, wheelchair-accessible Yorktown Trolley begins its service at 10 a.m. on event weekends and makes several stops.
