Library Opens, Clocks Change, Budget Presentation Upcoming

New Yorktown Library Open March 20!

The wait is over! The expanded and renovated library opens at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 20. Visitors may enjoy the circulation and reference services back at full capacity, public computers with print capabilities, and the use of study and group rooms. Because of continuing minor construction projects, some areas of the building may not be available, including the Children’s Wing. Once fully opened, the facility will offer an auditorium with a stage for performances, technology makerspace lab, and a local history area. Hours of operation will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Beginning March 18 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., the Tabb Library is offering a four-part, weekly ukulele series for intermediate and advanced players. Instructor Jamie Auberg will help students learn to play both melodies and chores in a fun, innovative learning environment. This class is open to ages 13 and up. Registration is required. Presentation Next Sunday Highlights the Songs of Women’s Suffrage

In recognition of Women’s History Month, join songstress Deborah Soderholm at 3 p.m. next Sunday (3/19) at York Hall, as she brings the Women’s Suffrage movement alive through the words and music of the people that lived it. These songs were rarely recorded until long after their cause was won and have never been heard…until now. This free event is presented by the York County Historical Committee.

Register Today for the Easter Egg Scramble at New Quarter Park

Hop on over to the Parks & Recreation website and register your kids ages 5-12 for this eggs-cellent event scheduled for Saturday, April 1, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at New Quarter Park (1000 Lakeshead Drive, near the Queens Lake neighborhood). Activities begin at 9:30 and the hunt is on at 10! Take your child’s picture with the Easter Bunny, have fun at the petting zoo, and watch your child make fun crafts and search for hidden Easter eggs. Cost is $10 for residents; $15 for non-County residents. Registration ends March 24.

Change Your Clocks, Change the Batteries in Your Alarms

Daylight saving time begins at 2 a.m. on Sunday (3/12), which means turn your clocks ahead one hour before going to bed the night before. Helpful hint: Search for clocks that don’t update automatically such as those found on some microwaves, coffeepots, ovens, vehicles, etc. This time of year it’s also good to change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. Additional Notes for the Week…Tomorrow’s (3/11) Horticultural Extravaganza at Tabb High School is welcome to walk-ins! Doors open at 7:30 a.m. for registration; first speaker is at 8:30 a.m. For more information, please call 757-890-4940. St. Patrick’s Day Glow Skate at Skate, Rattle and Roll next Friday (3/17). Wear some green and come out for this special session at Dare Elementary School Gym. More information is available online. Household Chemical Collection/Computer Recycling/Free Paper Shredding is tomorrow (3/11) from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Public Works complex (105 Service Drive). Details available online.
