Tips for Handling your Extra Holiday Recycling

Remember, recycling is an “Automated Collection”…. All materials must be placed in the cart for collection.  Please consider these tips to maximize the use of your cart.

Here are a few methods of getting more into your cart:
  • Flatten out all the boxes
  • Place the flattened cardboard into your cart last; if it is full, use the lid like a clipboard to hold the flattened cardboard.
  • Use one of the boxes to place flattened cardboard into it and place that entire box full of flattened cardboard on top of the recycling cart - this way when the driver picks up the cart with the automated arm, the box will slide in first and then the lid will open on the cart and the rest of the recyclable materials will release into the truck.
*Please be mindful in the event of a strong wind, please consider holding boxes until the next collection or bring them to the drop off recycling center at 145 Goodwin Neck Road.

And remember - carts should be at the curb by 7AM on your collection day! Holidays can affect the timing of the routes and the trucks may be in your area earlier than usual. Please have your recycling carts out by 7 AM to make sure you don’t miss your collection!

Happy Holidays!
