Yorktown Celebrates Christmas!

Join us this evening for the Yorktown Christmas Tree Lighting! The fun begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Victory Monument with a performance by the Fifes & Drums of York Town. From there, the procession makes it way down Main Street to Riverwalk Landing where the tree lighting ceremony begins….and special visitors from the North Pole stop by to visit with children of all ages. If you want a weekend of Christmas holiday fun, you're in luck! Tomorrow (12/3) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Sunday (12/4) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., search for the perfect holiday gift for family or friends at the Christmas Market on Main. Close to 100 vendors will line the streets selling everything from wreaths and ornaments to nautical paintings and handmade soaps. Later that evening, starting at 6 p.m., take a seat next to a bonfire on the beach and watch as boats make their way down the river in a dazzling light show during the annual Lighted Boat Parade at 7 p.m. On Sunday afternoon, kids can have Cookies with Santa in York Hall from 1 to 4 p.m.

The magic of the season continues next weekend during An Enchanted Evening. On Friday (12/9) from 5 to 9 p.m., stroll around Main Street to see twinkling lights, hear festive music and taste seasonal treats like roasted chestnuts. This event features entertainment for all ages. Kids will be able to sit with Santa, pet animals at a live nativity scene and make a holiday craft. Grown-ups can shop at the Gallery at York Hall for the perfect gift. Grab delicious dinner or scrumptious snacks from food trucks and Mobjack Coffee Roasters and Petite Café. Interested in the Water Street Area Master Plan? Share Your Input at Tomorrow’s (12/3) Market

York County has contracted with the consulting group Hill Studio to develop a master plan for the portion of Water Street located between the Yorktown Pub and the Yorktown Beach Hotel. Representatives from Hill Studio will have a table at tomorrow’s (12/3) Christmas Market on Main and are looking for your input about the area regarding landscaping, parking, public access, even trash removal! Stop by the tent located at the intersection of Church and Main, next to the information tent. If you can’t make it to the market but want to provide your input, please send an email to the County.

Bypass Road Sidewalk Project Completed!

Are you ready to take a stroll along Bypass Road? The final inspection has been conducted and the new sidewalk is now fully open. This five-foot wide sidewalk runs from Route 132 to Waller Mill Road. The project was funded by the federal, state and local governments and replaced the deteriorated asphalt path with a concrete sidewalk that ties into existing walkways.

Additional Notes for the Week…York County taxes are due on or before Monday (12/5). For more information and payment options, visit the Treasurer’s Office online. Parks and Recreation is now accepting registrations for their holiday programs, including Parents’ Day Out, Grinch’s Night Out, and Holiday Hoopla Camp!
