Shop Small on Saturday, November 26

Most of us are familiar with “Black Friday” shopping, but don’t forget that this Saturday (11/26) is Small Business Saturday – a day to celebrate and support small businesses and all they do for our community. Small Business Saturday has become an integral part of small businesses’ livelihood. The thousands of small businesses in York County and our region need our support now, more than ever, as they navigate, retool and pivot from the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. Please join us in kicking off the 2022 holiday season by supporting our local, independent businesses this Small Business Saturday and all holiday season long.

Stay Safe this Shopping Season

During the next several weeks, everyone will be making purchases for the holidays. Some, inevitably, will be person-to-person transactions – kind of like an electronic garage sale! The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office has a dedicated Safe Exchange Zone where you can drop off/pick up items from others. This location is in the parking lot of the Public Safety Building (301 Goodwin Neck Road) and is under 24-hour surveillance. Some restrictions apply and property cannot be dropped off and left unattended. For more information, visit the Safe Exchange Zone page on the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office website.

Cook Road Reopens Just in Time for Thanksgiving

Paving has wrapped up on Cook Road and the road is now open! Drive safely – striping will be done after the holiday. A big “thank you” to the residents and businesses in that area who have had to navigate the road work. And thanks to the work crews for adding one more item to the list of things to be thankful for.

Railroad Work May Affect Travel in Williamsburg Area

CSX is replacing railroad ties at three crossings beginning early next week. The closures will each last several hours and may impact citizen commutes. All closures are planned for 8 p.m. the first night with a tentative reopening of 3 p.m. the following day. Here are the dates/times and location of each crossing closure: Henry Street – 11/28 to 11/29; Airport Road – 11/29 to 11/30; and Lightfoot Road – 11/30 to 12/1.

Additional Notes for the Week…Garbage and recycling will not be collected tomorrow (11/24). Thursday collections move to Friday (11/24), and Friday’s will be picked up Saturday. Also, York County government offices and courts are closed Thanksgiving and the day after. Please check the website for a complete listing of closures.
