New TV Program, New Community Garden,
and Other News to Know this Week

State of the County

State of the County Event Replay Premieres
on WYCG-TV

In York County, we are making our move with major investments in facilities, infrastructure, and economic development.  Tune in tomorrow (9/24) at 8 p.m. for the premiere of the State of the County replay with Board of Supervisors Chairman Sheila Noll and County Administrator Neil Morgan sharing a detailed overview of all that is happening. This program runs daily on WYCG-TV (Cox 46/Verizon 38) and is available on demand anytime on the County’s YouTube channel. The latest edition of York News and What’s in the Works, now airing on WYCG-TV, include highlights of the projects. The County has two cable channels, also streamed live on the website, with local programs and live telecasts and replays of the Board of Supervisors and Planning Commission meetings.  Find out more about WYCG-TV programming and The Announcement Channel at www.yorkcounty.gov/tv.

Now Accepting Applications for Charles Brown Park Community Garden
York County has added a second community garden!  This new one is located at Charles Brown Park (1950 Old Williamsburg Road). There are 30 plots available to York County residents for a small annual fee. All 10’x20’ plots are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Apply in person at the Virginia Cooperative Extension Office located in Washington Square Shopping Center. Call 757-890-4940 for more information. (Note:  The original community garden is located at the McReynolds Athletic Complex. All the plots at the MAC are reserved.)

Exciting Library Events for Adult Patrons
A Dungeons & Dragons program for those 18+ is being held Tuesday (9/27) from 6 to 8 p.m. Join others for a D&D evening by taking part in a one-shot campaign or starting a new, ongoing campaign.  And then, from 6 to 7 p.m. on Thursday (9/29), older patrons can learn the ins and outs of senior health coverage at our Medicare Education Program. Registration is recommended for both of these events via the Library’s event calendar, where you can also find more information about these and other Library programs. 
 
VDOT Asks:  How can we help you?
Have a concern with road conditions in York County?  Want to report a pothole or guardrail that needs repair?  Or, do you just have a question or need information about our roads?  Click over to myVDOT and fill out the form!  An interactive map allows you to indicate the location of the concern along with a section to complete with  more detailed information. Once you have filled out the form, it is submitted directly to VDOT for attention. Residents can also create an account that will help track the status of requests, receive automatic updates, and manage your contact preferences.

“Ben Franklin” to Speak in York Hall October 2
The York County Historical Committee is sponsoring a free lecture featuring award-winning newspaperman and stage veteran Tony Gabriele as Benjamin Franklin, businessman, author, inventor, and Founding Father.  Mr. Gabriele has been portraying Franklin since 2009, sharing the life of the historical figure to several groups.  This free presentation is held in York Hall (301 Main Street) at 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 2.  Registration is not required. 
 
Additional Notes for the Week…Early Voting has begun at both Voter Registration locations:  Washington Square Shopping Center in Grafton, and Victory Village Shopping Center in the upper County. These offices are open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.   Rhythms on the Riverwalk continues Thursday (9/27) with The Jason Cale Band!  Showtime is 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating and consider arriving early to grab a bite at one of Yorktown’s restaurants.   The last day to submit photos in the Beautiful York County calendar photo contest is next Saturday (10/1). This contest is open to amateur photographers who live in the County. Winners will see their photos printed in next year’s calendar and receive a cash prize. Details are on the website.    

There is no Market Days next Saturday (10/1) as the popular event takes a day off  for the Yorktown Wine Festival! 
Market Days returns the following weekend with an extended Market:  The Yorktown Fall Festival!  Check the website for details.
