Sheriff’s Office R.A.D. Program Accepting Applications
The Rape Aggression Defense System ™ teaches self-defense tactics and techniques for women, including awareness, prevention, risk reduction, risk avoidance, and hands-on defense training. This popular women-only course is taught by nationally certified R.A.D. instructors. Classes are in November at Yorktown Elementary School. Space is available on a first-come, first-served basis. This class is open to women ages 16 and up (those under 18 must be accompanied by a female adult). The application form is available on the Sheriff’s Office website along with a WYCG-TV “News from the Sheriff” program featuring a look at the R.A.D. class curriculum.
Head Start Enrollment Open for 2022-2023 School Year
Eligible York County families with children between the ages of 3 and 5 may apply for admission to this child development program. Students receive educational services to help prepare them for kindergarten while their families are supported with services in health, nutrition, mental health, education, disabilities, and financial wellness. Head Start children receive free breakfast and lunch. Classes are September to May. Applications are available on the Head Start website.
