"YorkCam at Riverwalk Landing" Now Streaming Live

Starting today on York County’s home page  (www.yorkcounty.gov), you can now watch a live shot of the Yorktown waterfront and the York River.  Placed approximately 50 feet above street level, “YorkCam at Riverwalk Landing” provides the live view 24/7 from the cupola of York Hall, the County’s seat of government located “on the hill” at the corner of Main and Ballard Streets.  Viewers can see the County’s Riverwalk Landing piers, boat activity on the river, and the George P. Coleman Bridge that connects York County and Gloucester.
          The webcam is also streaming on Visit Yorktown’s home page (www.VisitYorktown.org).
“This live camera lets those outside our region view the great scenery, and we hope it will interest people to come visit Yorktown and see what else it has to offer,” said Mark Bellamy, Deputy County Administrator. 
          When visiting the website from their mobile devices, viewers will need to scroll to the bottom of the page and turn their phones sideways. Touching the “full screen” icon (shown) will fit the picture to the frame.
“County staff have discussed the use of webcams for a few years and were approached by WAVY-TV10’s Ricky Matthews, a member of its Weather Team, to use the live feed in the channel’s weather coverage,” said Darren Williams, Waterfront Operations and Event Manager. “We hope that this camera’s success will lead to others being installed for the public to enjoy.”
