Farmers Market Week, Tax Free Weekend, and Parking Updates
Yorktown Celebrates National Farmers Market Week August 7-13
Yorktown Market Days on Saturdays, August 6 and 13, will recognize the important role that farmers play in providing food for their communities. Eight family-owned and operated farms set up at Riverwalk Landing each week and shoppers will find many items for their tables, several that are fresh from the farm! Visitors to the markets will enjoy live musical performances and kids can stop by the information booth for temporary tattoos, stickers, and coloring sheets. For more information, read this week’s press release.
Tax Free Weekend is Coming Up
This year’s 3-day sales tax holiday starts Friday (8/5) and ends two days later on Sunday (8/7). It’s a great opportunity to do your back-to-school shopping and to buy supplies that you may need for hurricane and emergency preparedness. Additionally, Energy Star™ and WaterSense™ products are also tax free. More information about the sales tax holiday, including a list of qualifying items, is available on the Virginia Tax website. Also on August 5, the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office “Back to School Supply Drive” will be held at the WalMart on George Washington Memorial Highway (Rt. 17) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please considering buying some supplies for kids in need. All donations are given to the York County School Division. The list of needed supplies is available online.
