Fourth of July in Yorktown

All About the Fourth and Heads Up for Our Summer News Break

Celebrate Independence Day in Yorktown

York County has a great celebration planned for the 4th of July on Monday. Our old-fashioned patriotic parade begins at 9 a.m. at the waterfront and concludes on Main Street by the Victory Monument.  Children’s activities begin at 1 p.m., and the food trucks/tents open at 4.  The battlefield parking area is set up and ready to welcome hundreds of cars for the afternoon and evening events. The parking area opens at 4 p.m. Don’t wait until the last minute to head to Yorktown for the 9:15 FIREWORKS show since this is our only public parking on Independence Day and once it’s full, the town is closed to traffic. The walk from the parking lot to the waterfront is approximately one mile on uneven terrain, so please figure that in your plans. Those requiring handicapped parking and special assistance are asked to report to Yorktown Middle School from 4 to 7 p.m. for special needs transportation, available to the person requiring assistance and one escort (i.e. family-member, friend, caregiver). Complete details and schedule are available on the website. Be sure to follow our Facebook page for any new “day of” information and parking updates.

Riverwalk Parking Upper Deck Reopens Today (7/1)
Engineers have determined that the damage in the Riverwalk Landing Parking Deck is not structural and the upper deck is now fully open. As before, the limited parking on the lower deck will be for business and restaurant patrons and beach goers will be referred to the upper deck. A cosmetic repair will be scheduled soon and notice will be given for a reclosure period later this summer.

Curbside customers are asked to place their containers at the roadside on the day following their normal collection schedule.  All routes will be completed by Saturday, July 9.  County offices, courts, and libraries are closed July 4th, including York-Poquoson Social Services, Virginia Cooperative Extension.
