Mosquito Control

York County Mosquito Control Division routinely samples mosquitoes collected throughout the County and tests for common mosquito-borne illnesses.  Mosquito Control also conducts a comprehensive larvicide and spray program during the season that mosquitoes are most active, from late spring to early fall.  Recent tests conducted in Lower York County have produced positive West Nile Virus results.    
 
At this time, Mosquito Control is not aware of reported cases of West Nile Virus in humans or animals in York County.  The County plans to continue testing and spraying efforts.  Mosquito Control recommends the use of insect repellent and long sleeves/pants to cover exposed skin.
 
Residents are encouraged to pick up Mosquito Dunks from the Waste Management Center, Public Works office or the Tabb Library.  This is a natural mosquito control product that is free of charge to citizens.  The dunks use a bacteria mosquito larva ingest that will kill them. The bacteria is mosquito specific and is harmless to other creatures. Each dunk treats 100 sq. ft. and lasts 30 days. A single dunk can be broken up and treat smaller areas.
 
It is also important for residents and businesses to regularly tip and toss any standing water on their property, especially in containers such as tires, flower pots, tarps, toys, and bird baths. 

Residents can also request free yard inspections to identify areas containing standing water.  If you are interested in adding mosquito fish to your ornamental pond any other area of permanent standing water, they can be provided free of charge by contacting Mosquito Control.
 
Ground spraying is scheduled for the following areas on Friday, July 1, 2022 between 12:00 a.m. – 5:00 a.m.:

Tabb Lakes, Lilburne Meadows, Finch Terrace, Faison Green, Smithy Glen, Presson Arbor, York Meadows and parts of the Greenlands
