March 30 Status Update: The Latest from York County

This email is part of an ongoing status update from York County.

Due to the level of beach activity experienced this past weekend, effective immediately the Yorktown Beach is now closed to ALL activities.  This closure also includes the National Park Service (NPS) Beach Picnic Area located at the end of Water Street as well as the NPS beach west of the Coleman Bridge.

"My hope in limiting the beach to pedestrian-only activity last week was for citizens to enjoy the beauty of the beach area while maintaining their distance and reducing their chance of exposure," said Neil Morgan, York County Administrator.  "Unfortunately, in the interests of public health and safety, all beach activity is now prohibited. To be clear, the sand on both sides of the bridge is off limits."

This means that no one is permitted on the sand of the beach, on the National Park Service's beaches, or on the grass at the Beach Picnic area.

Also included in the closure is all public restroom facilities at the waterfront and the Yorktown fishing pier.

For now, the Riverwalk Landing pathway remains open to individuals practicing social distancing.

These steps are being taken to curb the spread of COVID-19 and to protect public health.  If you have questions about what is/is not permitted, please call York County at (757) 890-3300.
