[ARCHIVED] Solar Viewing Glasses Available Aug. 1 at Tabb

On Monday, August 21, 2017, a total eclipse of the Sun will be visible across the continental US for the first time since 1918. Every state will see at least 60% of the Sun covered by the Moon. People on a narrow path from Oregon to South Carolina will see a total eclipse, with the Moon briefly covering the Sun and day turning into night.

Special eclipse glasses or indirect viewing techniques are needed to look at the Sun safely during an eclipse. (Sun glasses are not acceptable.) Thanks to the generosity of the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, free eclipse glasses will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last, beginning August 1 at the Tabb Library Youth Services desk. A library card is not needed to receive glasses, but there is a limit of one pair of glasses per household member. An adult can pick up glasses for their household at the Tabb Youth Services desk (no phone requests).

Requests from groups will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Email group requestsand include your organization name, nonprofit status, and number of glasses requested. Please indicate if you are using the glasses in conjunction with an educational program.
