Registration is open for “Weekend On Your Wheels,” a youth mountain bike race series at York County’s New Quarter Park. The program invites kids ages 3 to 18 to enjoy the park’s mountain bike trail designed especially for children. The first race of the series will begin Sunday, March 25, with registration at 12:45 p.m. and race time at 1:30 p.m. The next races will be held at the same times on Sundays: April 22 and 29, May 20, and June 3, with the rain date on May 13.
Bikers interested in the series should come to meet staff and pre-ride the trails on Sunday, March 18, at 12:45 p.m.
The youth mountain bike trail has three courses:
- the short course designed for kids 6 and under who ride push and balance bikes and for elementary/novice (no training wheels) riders,
- the medium course designed for elementary/intermediate riders, usually in middle school or ages 11 to 14, and
- the long course designed for high school riders ages 14 to 18
Parents must be present and riders are required to wear a helmet. A geared bike is necessary for middle, high school, and advanced riders. Push bikes, balance bikes, or strider bikes are suggested for younger participants. No training wheels, pegs, or axle extenders are allowed.
The registration fee for the series is $25 per child and $20 for each additional child in the same family. To race only one or two races, the registration fee is $10 per race day. All participants will receive ribbons and a number plate for their bikes.
