The Library is on a mission to get more people to try digital reading! Even though we've offered eBooks and audiobooks from OverDrive for six years, many people are still surprised to learn their library card gives them access to over 6,000 free digital titles.
Throughout the rest of this year, the Library is participating in OverDrive’s “Digital Dash” contest. If we hit 45,822 digital checkouts by the end of the year, we’ll be eligible to win additional funds to buy more eBooks and audiobooks for our OverDrive collection. To encourage our community to try digital and help us hit our goal, we’re raffling off a Kindle Fire tablet on Fridays, Dec. 8, 15, and 22. To be eligible, you just have to borrow an eBook or audiobook from our OverDrive collection during the previous week! The Dec. 8th drawing will include patrons who borrowed eBooks and/or audiobooks from Dec. 1-7; the Dec. 15th drawing includes checkouts from Dec. 8-14; and the Dec. 22nd drawing includes patrons with checkouts from Dec. 15-21. Limit one prize per patron.
The library’s digital books are free for anyone with a valid York County Public Library card. Current popular titles include Origin by Dan Brown, Come Sundown by Nora Roberts, and The Rooster Bar by John Grisham. Users can borrow bestsellers and classic eBooks and digital audiobooks to enjoy on smart phones, tablets, Kindles, and other eReaders, MP3 players, and computers. A variety of fiction and nonfiction titles are available for adults, teens, and children. There are never any late fees since digital titles return automatically at the end of the 14-day lending period. Readers can access the library’s digital collection 24/7 by visiting our OverDrive website or by downloading the Libby app from their device’s app store.
