Volunteer to help expand New Quarter Park's Butterfly Habitat

Butterfly Habitat Volunteer

Volunteers are needed to help expand New Quarter Park’s Butterfly Habitat area on Saturday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The park with partner with the Virginia Master Naturalist Historic Rivers Chapter to plant wildflowers and remove invasive plants. We need volunteers of all ages to register for this project! Thanks to a large turnout last year, over 300 plants were put in the ground, much to the delight of the butterflies. The park saw an increase in butterflies, especially Monarch Butterflies, and we hope the expansion project helps that trend to continue. Because of the effort, the habitat has been officially sanctions as a Monarch Watch Way Station by the national non-profit Monarch Watch! Volunteers are asked to register at www.yorkcounty.gov/parksandrec. For more information, or to donate any plants or other supplies, please call New Quarter Park at (757) 890-5840 or Parks and Recreation at (757) 890-3500.
