2020 Summer Reading Challenges

We have summer reading challenges for all ages at your York County Public Library! Online registration starts Monday, June 8. Summer reading runs from June 22 through July 31. Our theme this summer is Imagine Your Story. We’re celebrating fairy tales, folk tales, fables, mythology, and more. Join us!

Summer Reading Programs 2020 Opens in new windowWe have four Imagine Your Story reading challenge programs. Summer reading goals, completion prizes, dates to remember, and other details are available to download for each challenge. All summer reading events will be online this year. Craft and science themed videos will be available periodically on Facebook and YouTube, and story times will be on Facebook. A programming calendar is available for Baby/Toddler and Children’s virtual events.

Challenge Program Details

Babies and Toddlers, ages 0-4
Children, ages 5-12
Teens, ages 13-17
Adults, ages 18 and up

Sign up for our Imagine Your Story summer reading program today! Opens in new window

Register beginning Monday, June 8, through Beanstack, an online portal to record your reading progress.  You can also register through the Beanstack Tracker app from Zoobean, Inc. The app is available for Android and iPhone devices. After installing the app, click on "Get Started" and search for "York County Public Library." Then set up your account in the app. You can register an individual or a family. Beginning June 22, participants will be logging minutes read and completing tasks to earn activity badges and prizes. 

Community Challenge Reading Goals

All summer reading participants will be working toward our community reading goals. When we reach those goals, library staff will be pied in the face. Our goals are:

Level One: 2000 hours read
Youth Services Librarian Jenna gets pied in the face.

Level Two: 4000 hours read
Programming Librarian Beth gets pied in the face.

Level Three: 6000 hours read
Library Director Kevin gets pied in the face.
