MakerSpace

Unleash your creativity at the Yorktown Library's MakerSpace. The MakerSpace provides users with various machines, tools, and technology to explore, build, and create. The MakerSpace offers two services: Maker Hours and Make It On Demand.

Maker Hours

Maker Hours provide adult York County Public Library (YCPL) cardholders interested in DIY, making, and crafting a chance to explore some of the Yorktown Library Makerspace tools and experiment with new ways of creating. Since Maker Hours vary each month, visit our events calendar to view the available days and times. The equipment available during Maker Hours includes:Yorktown Library Makerspace Now Open

  • Cricut Maker 3
  • Singer Heavy Duty Sewing Machine
  • Brother CS7000i Computerized Sewing and Quilting Machine
  • Brother SE600 Computerized Sewing and Embroidery Machine
  • laminator
  • laptops loaded with software needed to submit Make It On Demand requests

To use the equipment, patrons must have a YCPL card in good standing, have taken the MakerSpace at Yorktown Library Required Training and machine-specific training modules available through the library's Niche Academy training website, and have signed the Makerspace Use Agreement. Patrons can complete the training at home or in the Library. Equipment can be booked same day in-person on a first-come, first-served basis for 1 hour sessions. Maker Hours are available for self-serve use by intermediate and advanced users; library staff will be available to provide basic information about the library’s resources, not in-depth training. Users must check in with the MakerSpace staff member on duty using their YCPL library card each time before using the space.

Make It On Demand

The Make It On Demand service provides YCPL cardholders with the opportunity to request that staff create objects on either the library’s MakerBot Replicator+ 3D Printer or the GlowForge laser cutter. Adult cardholders in good standing can submit up to two requests per month via our online form or a paper form available at the Yorktown Library Reference Desk. A fee for materials is associated with the service.
