York County - Kayaking

Kayaks are available to rent May 1st to October 1st
at New Quarter Park and Back Creek Park

Weather Cancellation Policy:

  • If there is lightning kayaks will not be rented out for one hour
  • Winds higher than  25mph (22 knots)
  • Water temperature is 55 degrees Fahrenheit or colder
  • If a severe weather warning has been posted by the county or weather station/website for the area, York County reserves the right to cancel rentals at any time

You must be at least 18 years old to rent a kayak

Children 13 to 17 must have a parent or guardian with them at all times while using a kayak

Children 12 and under are not eligible to use county kayaks

Rentals are on a first come, first serve basis

Rental times and fees are subject to change without warning

Kayaks must be returned one hour before sunset

Rental Fees :

  • 2 hour block - Resident Fee $10 / Non Resident Fee $12
  • Full Day - Resident Fee $30 / Non Resident Fee $35

Register Online

  • Goodwin Island Kayak Expedition – June 9 from 9 am – 3 pm
    • Advanced Kayak day trip exploring Goodwin Island and learning about the Chesapeake Bay. Only 10 spots for each date. Bring a packed lunch, water, water shoes, sun screen, hat, sunglasses, and camera.
    • Cost $60 per person. Includes: Kayak, Paddle, and life jacket

  • Sunset Kayak Creek Crawling - Dates: May 31st, June 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th,
    7 pm – 8:30 pm
    • Introduction to kayaking with a short safety/paddling demonstration followed by a sunset excursion on Back Creek. This is a trip for beginners, families, and anyone who enjoys nature during the last hour of daylight. Bring a packed lunch, water, water shoes, sun screen, hat, sunglasses, and camera.
    • $35 per person.  Includes: Kayak, Paddle, and life jacket
    • Must be at least 13 years old (13-17 must be accompanied by an adult)
    • Only 10 spots per date

New Quarter Park Kayaking

Bring Your Own Kayak (BYOK)  - Join Bay Country Kayaking for a guided tour of Queens Creek. Bring your own kayak or rent one day of. Bring water, water shoes, sun screen, hat, sunglasses, and camera. This is a great opportunity to learn about the historic creek and see Osprey, Bald Eagles, and Blue Herons.

Dates: 3rd Saturday every month from May to October from 9 am – 12 pm
