Main Street, Yorktown

It is said that Yorktown’s Main Street was a well-traveled path long before York County Surveyor Major Lawrence Smith laid out the Town of York in 1691. The original Main Street crossed today’s U.S. Route 17 and continued down the hill to intersect Water Street. Since Main Street was established, buildings have changed and the road has been paved since the 1930’s, but the structures preserved along its edge offer an extraordinary link with Yorktown’s rich historic past.
