The York County Historical Committee serves as an advisory body to the
York County Board of Supervisors on matters of an historical nature dealing with the County
and the Town of York.
Specific functions of the Committee include:
- Initiating actions as it deems appropriate, subject to the approval
of the Board of Supervisors, to document, celebrate, and perpetuate York County’s historical
importance, and to keep alive the traditions which formed the foundations of York County’s,
Virginia’s and America’s heritage.
- Serving as the coordinating body for the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting
Ceremony.
- Coordinating and performing other tasks or projects having past or
future historical significance and approved by the Board of Supervisors.

Active members
are citizens of York County appointed by the Board of
Supervisors of York County, Virginia and have the right to vote, hold office, and serve
on Historical Committee sub-committees. The number of active members shall not exceed
twenty-five (25).
Associate members are any person interested in pursuing the goals
of the York County Historical Committee and appointed in this capacity by the Board of Supervisors.
Associate members do not have the right to vote or hold office, but may serve on Historical
Committee sub-committees. The number of associate members is not limited.

elected annually for a term of one year, beginning January 1st.
