DOCUMENTATION
[Back]
Sometimes individuals may not be certain if actions
toward them constitute stalking, or may be uncertain as to the identity
of the stalker. In all cases, but especially in these circumstances, it
is very important that you keep detailed records of all suspicious
activity.
For every incident, document dates, times, locations,
witnesses’ names, and what the stalker was doing, saying, wearing,
driving (including license plate numbers, if possible). Also, keep and
date all cards, letters, notes and envelopes from the stalker. If the
stalker has left flowers or other "gifts" at your home, on
your car, or at your job, preserve these as well. If the stalker is
making obscene or harassing phone calls, you should inform the telephone
company. You may be able to trace the calls by pressing a code after you
disconnect the call. In many areas, the Call Trace feature is activated
by pressing *57 after hanging up. However, check with the phone company
in your locality to determine if this service is available in your area, how to activate it,
and if there is a cost to use the feature. For more information in
keeping a stalking log, see Stalking Log
Information.
